At the Bioclimate Park Drienová, we have expanded our monitoring system with two automatic weather stations. One monitors conditions directly in the park, while the other is located in the town of Rajec. This allows us not only to monitor weather conditions over the long term, but also to compare the climate in the park’s nature-based environment with that of an urban area.
The stations measure air temperature and humidity, atmospheric pressure, precipitation, wind speed and direction, solar radiation and UV index. An important part of the monitoring also focuses on conditions directly in the soil.
Why Do We Monitor the Soil?
For the Bioclimate Park, it is important to know not only how much rain falls, but also what happens to the water afterwards. Soil moisture data help us understand water retention in the landscape, monitor dry periods and observe how the area responds to rainfall.
The stations operate automatically, with measured data transmitted online and archived. This enables us to follow both current conditions and long-term trends. The equipment is designed for year-round operation and includes autonomous solar power and backup power supply.
The weather stations will be used for long-term monitoring of climatic, hydrological and soil conditions as part of the WATERGRID project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.
