A group of international water management experts, researchers, and academics from the Brussels metropolitan region, southern France, and Bavaria arrived in the Žilina region to learn about initiatives for the protection and restoration of water resources and the revitalization of degraded landscapes based on ecosystem principles.
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, we welcomed this group of experts at the Bioclimatic Park Drienová. The event was held as part of the SLOVAK WATER TOUR initiative, which focuses on sharing experiences in sustainable water resource management and fosters international collaboration in addressing pressing environmental challenges such as drought protection, flood prevention, and climate change adaptation.

The experts also met with representatives of the Žilina Self-Governing Region at the headquarters of Energy – Eco – Services. During the meeting, they were introduced to the vision and practical measures for climate recovery in the Žilina region that this organization aims to implement. As a signatory of the Green Memorandum, the Žilina Self-Governing Region, together with its partners, actively seeks, develops, and implements solutions to protect the region from the climate crisis.
During the multi-day study tour, the experts also became familiar with practical solutions and research projects currently underway in the Žilina region, which sparked interest in deeper insights into these solutions, methodological approaches, and community engagement in integrated water resource protection, flood and drought prevention, and climate adaptation. The SLOVAK WATER TOUR study tour was part of the exciting DALIA Danube Lighthouse project.
